I personally like the big plastic block kind with 3 steps, they are sturdy, don't blow around if left outside, and can take the clydesdale stepping on it or knocking into it without breaking or cracking. Whichever you choose, please be sure the saddle fits you. It's comfortable for me and I can mount easily. Probably a pony saddle which can be used on a full sized horse will suit you best. You don't want too big of a horse to ride. Would you feel comfortable on a wide-back horse?

Honestly, I'm 5"3 and some horses are just too big for me. You would not let a 4 year old sit on a full sized horse and ride it on its own.
